Hi everyone... Or everyone that is here so far!

Just bought myself a Vareo (485). I've yet to bring it home and give it a good going over cleaning, lubing and race prepping.

I read about adding balls to the transom rope traveller (similar to rs100) to control the amount of travel. Do any of the other users have this mod made? If so, do you have any photos of the set up?

They do make a difference, put them about in line with the side decking. You also need to be able to adjust the tightness of the transom horse, so bring the ends back to the middle , put a loop in one end & tie with the other. In light winds loosen the horse to allow the mainsail to centre more. We got here before the RS100!!

has anybody got a pic of the transom horse arrangement. I am a bit confused as to where to put the ball and what they are going to do for performance.
Thanks

Thanks Rick. Would it be too much to ask you take a quick snap when your next down at your boat? I think I get the gist of it, but a picture speaks a thousand words. :)

No worries if it's not possible.

Thanks

Thanks Per.

Is this how the race scene have the transom horse set up? That does look particularly easy to adjust mid race.

the pic looks fine, I would put the port ball another 5cm towards the centre. You cannot udjust whilst racing but in between is enough. Bringing the boom angle in & lets you point higher & in windy weather you are just moving the boom sideways rather than downwards

Thanks everyone.

I assumed it would be adjustable mid race, but couldn't get my head around how as all the systems are tied onto themselves. Makes complete sense now!

This is a fairly old post about fitting transom balls and the photos are no longer accessible so could someone re-upload them?

What distance should they be set apart?

I can see that this would help point better but does it not create a problem in going downwind when letting the sail out fully?

I have just joined the Vareo fleet and I have been wondering about this as well, can someone post some pictures, and also explain what the setting should be to help point higher as I seem to get outpointed by lasers by some margin so I am guessing I have my rig setup wrong??

Any chance of some photos showing how this set-up works, please?
